Most off-the-shelf gaming PCs are loud. Cheap stock fans, generic cases, and no attention paid to fan curves or undervolting mean a typical pre-built sits at 38–42 dBA under gaming load — clearly audible in a quiet room. A properly built quiet PC measures around 22–28 dBA at the desk, comparable to a desk lamp's buzz. Once you've gamed on one, going back is genuinely hard.

How we actually achieve silence
The quiet spec
Inside the build
Every Whisper ships with a tuned BIOS fan curve and undervolt profile. Measured at the desk under sustained Cyberpunk 2077 load.
Studios, offices, shared rooms
Streamers and podcasters whose mic picks up fan noise. Music producers who can't have a PC competing with monitors. Shared bedrooms where someone's asleep. Anyone who's ever been bothered by their PC at 3am. A Forge Whisper isn't a quietly-spec'd compromise — it's a genuine performance build with the noise budget treated as a first-class concern.
Built the Forge way
Every Whisper is hand-built in the UK, cable-managed, undervolted, fan-curved, and burned in for 24 hours with thermal and noise logging before dispatch. Free insured tracked delivery, 2-year parts & labour warranty. Configure a quiet PC in 60 seconds, or browse our base builds.
Common questions
A properly tuned Forge quiet build sits at around 22–28 dBA at the desk under gaming load — quieter than a typical fridge. Idle is essentially inaudible. We achieve this with premium fans (Noctua A12x25 or be quiet! Silent Wings Pro), GPU undervolting, custom fan curves, and either fanless PSUs or PSUs with semi-passive zero-RPM modes.
Honestly, very little in 2026. An undervolted RTX 4070 Super loses about 2–3% performance for 30–40W less heat and dramatically quieter operation. The cost premium is in the cooling and fans (£100–£200 extra), not in giving up performance.
For pure silence, a large premium tower air cooler (Noctua NH-D15, be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5) is usually quieter than an AIO because there's no pump noise. AIOs can be quieter under heavy sustained load on high-TDP CPUs like the 14900K. We pick based on your CPU and case.
Our defaults are the be quiet! Silent Base 802 and Fractal Define 7, both purpose-built sound-dampened cases. For showcase silent builds we use the Fractal Define 7 XL or NZXT H7 Flow with sound-dampening modifications.
Yes. Premium aftermarket GPU coolers (ASUS TUF, MSI Suprim, Gigabyte Aorus Master) are already very quiet stock. Combined with our undervolt profile and a properly ventilated case, even an RTX 4090 stays quiet under sustained gaming load.
Fully passive desktop gaming PCs aren't really viable in 2026 — modern GPUs put out too much heat. We can build near-silent systems that are inaudible from 2 metres away, which in practice feels the same.
